I refer to the letter from person unknown about pensioners clogging up weekends in supermarkets.

The writer of the letter started by saying “it may sound tongue in cheek” and he/she thought it was time for someone to speak up for the thousands of families that have to shop at the weekends.

As a man who is nearly 65 years old I can say firstly, there is nothing tongue in cheek about getting older.

As a a man who has been getting fed up with the have a go at the elderly brigade, for many years now I would say the composer of that letter it is time to shut up, not speak up.

I even get a little frustrated when I am behind an elderly person who is taking her/his time, but I practice tolerance and understanding, not ignorance, arrogance and ill manners.

I actually get fed up with many young people, not least the ladies who clog up the aisles when they meet and stand there chatting quite oblivious to the fact that other people are trying to get by, including elderly people.

What our friend who wrote the letter and the rest of the anti-blue rinse brigade need to do is start showing consideration for the elderly, start learning some manners and teach their children some manners also.

Last but not least, remember that this is a free country and the blue rinse brigade can go shopping and use the Costa and Thornton’s coffee shops any time they like.

I very much doubt if the letter writer will spare a thought for younger families when he/she gets older. I doubt if he/she is capable of sparing a thought for anyone except his/her self.
