While I can appreciate the message contained in the star letter about pensioners shopping, I do take exception to it’s abusive nature.
On one’s 65th birthday one does not become a ‘shuffling old duffer’ and, assuming ‘name and address supplied’ has known parents and/or grandparents, he or she should be aware of this. And not everyone retires at 65, myself included. However, I actually prefer to do my shopping on the two days I do not work during the week as I have better things to do at the weekend.
However, this does not include buying corned beef, which has never been on my shopping list although I am sure my mother bought it during the War.
