Your report, Booming into the Golden Age (News Shopper, January 16), which highlighted the assumption anything near the river is sexy, must be a comfort to people living in Tranvers and Read House, in Woolwich.
Millions have been wasted on the Dome and that white elephant will still cost us a fortune until someone wakes up and sorts the millennium mess out.
Next, "top-end" earners will turn Greenwich into a no-go area for the likes of Harry Denford, who put his life on the line only to be neglected by the money-is-god brigade.
It is about time this country of ours got its act together.
In our days, you looked after your own first, and if you had a little bit over, you helped out someone less fortunate.
Guys like Harry should be at the top of this list when in need of a little help and we owe a great debt to our surviving heroes.
It is about time we started paying it off.
With respect to Harry, as a collector for the Poppy Appeal working for the past six years in Greenwich Market, I will forward the man's plight to the British Legion in the hope they can offer him help. Keep up the good work.
