I will start by saying the Biggin Hill Air Fair did not disappoint. My family were entertained throughout the show on Sunday and we thank News Shopper for its involvement in raising the funds to make this year’s air fair possible.
But I was very disappointed in the chaos that ensued when trying to leave the air fair at 4pm after the Red Arrows’ display had finished.
Like many other people with the same idea we packed our things, loaded the car, and set off for home 10 minutes away in Orpington.
We did not arrive home until after 7pm — three hours after we initially left — and all because of bad stewarding.
At such an event you rely on those in charge to plan for people leaving the event. But drivers were joining the queue at random places for nearly two hours in our case and it is just unacceptable. We saw a group of young stewards sitting by the grass verge laughing and enjoying the sun instead of directing the traffic and ensuring drivers did not queue-jump.
Unfortunately, a good day out was spoiled.
