AS SOMEONE who lived at the top of Blackheath Hill from birth in 1949 until my marriage in 1971, may I say the tea hut has been a stopping point for as long as I can remember.

The heath and Greenwich Park were my playground and my school was Greenwich Park School for Girls.

During the 60s, Greenwich Council made conservation areas of many ordinary roads in Greenwich and Blackheath.

Once the poor and the better-off could live side by side and accept each other. Today, with the gentrification of many roads have come new house owners who want to change things previous owners took to be part of their community.

The tea hut may not look much but I hope it succeeds in its determination to stay as it is part of the old Blackheath I know and loved as a child.
