PASSING my wife and I in Eltham, a gentleman remarked, very sadly, that the town is not at all what it was.
He was referring to certain areas being so run down.
The following is a breakdown is of the most obvious eyesores:
Near Sainsbury's and Philpot Path, there is uncollected rubbish litters, graffiti is on every wall and trees are growing all over and around a transformer bay. To my knowledge, this had not been cleared for years.
Litter bins, telephone boxes, bus shelters are violently damaged daily
There is an over abundance of charity, mobile phone and pound shops.
Adding to this is the closure of Allders which has not been replaced by another shop.
The closing of Eltham police station leads to an absence of police on the beat.
Although regularly contacting the highways department regarding the state of local pavements where grass has grown a foot high, there has been no response.
This is what the gentleman meant and I am sure every person who lives in this previously nice town agrees.
