SO BEXLEY Council thinks by changing the frequency of collections we can somehow find more to put in our recycling boxes.
Most of us are diligent recyclers and items not collected one week are held over until the next rather than be put in the general rubbish.
The biggest obstacle to an increase in the amount in our boxes is the narrow range of items the council regards as suitable for recycling.
For example, the only plastics acceptable to the council are lidless bottles, with the result the large quantity of trays, dishes, boxes and pots - not forgetting all the bottle tops - have to go in the general rubbish.
So come on, Bexley Council - if you can address these and other problem areas, I am sure the taxpayers will be behind you, and your recycling percentages will improve.
Alternatively, instead of bullying householders for not recycling enough, why not pursuade suppliers to use more materials which are suitable for recycling?
