In response to a previous letter on the future of the former Blockbuster site in Sidcup.

After sitting empty for several years and with little indication that anyone would be renting the former Blockbusters site, the (Bexley) council identified a unique opportunity to purchase this and the neighbouring property, which we took.

Instead of an eyesore at the most prominent location in the town lying empty for even more years, it will now become the home of Sidcup’s new cinema, and a better, state-of-the art library, able to offer even more services in a new home, fit for 2020.

And by sharing the site with Sidcup’s new cinema, the library will also be able to stay open into the evenings to serve even more residents than now.

We have yet to meet anyone who would prefer this site to fall into rack and ruin. It is vital that we continue supporting local businesses and our town centres across Bexley. That is why we have invested millions of pounds in town centres such as Sidcup over the last decade, to make them a vibrant place to visit, a place that new businesses are prepared to invest and to create jobs in.
