I AM researching the history of the Pittman family.
My grandfather's brother, William George Pittman, and his family lived in the Deptford area in the 1920s and 1930s.
Most of the family were associated with the river and I know he was a lighterman, until his death in 1939.
My grandfather was Jonathan Michael Pittman.
His family and the family of his brother John Henry lived in Mellish Street on the Isle of Dogs until the Second World War broke out.
