I AM writing to express my disappointment at the refusal to grant planning permission for the proposed development at Eden Road Scout headquarters (Plans To Sell Scout Land Are Refused, News Shopper, January 24).

As Cub leader of the group, I saw this development as a good way for us to turn an unusable piece of land into funds which would have provided the facility for us to make proper use of our outdoor area all year round, and to afford some essential maintenance work.

The residents who opposed this plan all express concern for the children at the group. Do they not think we have their best interests at heart?

We, the leaders, give up our free time on a voluntary basis and often at our own expense to run these units and would never do anything to compromise the children's best interests.

I would welcome any of these concerned residents to help me run my section.

If they are really concerned for the children, and want to make a difference, they can come along any Thursday night between 6.30pm and 8pm and I will be happy to see them.

We would also welcome their support at fundraising events such as our forthcoming cake sale on Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
