Bromley Friends of the Earth and Friends of Bromley Town Centre Parks and Gardens marked World Clean Up day by clearing litter in Bromley’s Library Gardens. This was part of an international action in which 150 countries participated.

The Bromley group of 12 volunteers collected six sacks of litter which ranged from plastic and glass bottles, tins, cigarette butts, drink cartons, plastic confetti, and broken glass, to discarded clothing and paper food wrappers, and old cycle parts.

The aim of the day was to raise greater awareness of the way in which the planet is being polluted, and to encourage people to be more responsible by recycling in their own household boxes and the Bromley Council litter bins, especially those which separate the waste.

Friends of the Earth meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Friends Meeting House, Ravensbourne Rd, Bromley at 7.30 pm. They are also holding a stall in the Mall Precinct, Bromley on Oct 27 from 2.30 – 4.30pm. Members of the public will be most welcome at meetings and also to support at the stall.
