Falconwood & District Horticultural Society has been polishing up its silverware in preparation for its 81st Annual Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Show on Saturday, August 18 at Falconwood Community Centre, Welling.

This traditional Village Show is a chance for the residents of Welling and the surrounding districts to show off their gardening, baking and home craft skills. The Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Brian Bishop will be presenting the prizes.

The Falconwood Show has a reputation of being really “gardener friendly” and it is open to all comers to 'have a go'.

This year there are 90 classes, including the up and coming classes of photography, and cake making. There are also children’s classes for the under 12s as well as the traditional flower and vegetable classes.

There is a new children’s cup this year presented by the East Wickham and Welling War Memorial Trust to mark the First World War centenary. This is for the best 6” x 4” photo entitled My Favorite Place. Digital photography makes this class something that all children could enter. Entry is FREE for both competitors and for viewing members of the public.

Show Secretary Val Clark said “Although many gardeners are quick to dismiss their own efforts, we all have something we can show, whether it is a house plant, a cactus or an entry for the cake section. In recent years we have had some really good shows, but this year, we would like to surpass this with more people taking part. In our flower arranging classes have a Royal Wedding themed class as well as other artistic themes.”

Exhibitors need to register between 8.00am and 11am on show day, whilst members of the public can enjoy an exceptional cream tea when the doors open for viewing at 3pm.

You can get your electronic copy of the show schedule by emailing fanddhs@gmail.com or it can be collected from Falconwood Community Centre, 0208 303 9793.
