A record breaking number of primary school entrants competed in the recently staged Bromley Borough Primary Schools’ Cross Country Competition at the iconic location of Crystal Palace Park. 2195 pupils from over 50 schools braved an early Saturday morning start to tackle the challenging course with commendable efforts produced by all participants.

The biannual borough event, now in its twenty-seventh year, was ably supported by members of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers Athletics Club as well as their junior association, The Bees Academy. Guest of honour, The Mayor of Bromley, enthusiastically started each of the races and assisted with the concluding awards ceremony.

The event, once again organised by a committee of largely voluntary teaching staff, was ably led by new Chairperson, Richard Edmonds, head teacher for Warren Road Primary School.

Borough Primary PE Advisor, Giles Platt added, ‘The event is reputed to be the largest of its kind nationally. Such an achievement would not be possible without the outstanding assistance from all organisers; the keen pupils; their amazing teachers and supportive parents’.
