What was once a typical everyday postbox has now become a colourful character in Brockley after a ‘makeover’ by a mystery resident.
The red postbox on Manor Avenue was given a pair of ‘googly’ eyes and was recently spotted donning eyebrows and even a set of teeth in preparation for the Halloween weekend.
Sarah Harkins, 28, of Greenbanks Close, said the postbox has gone down a treat with the local children.
She said: “My two girls love it and I have to admit when I first saw someone added teeth and eyebrows last week it really did make me giggle too.”
However, Royal Mail has revealed they plan to repaint the postbox as well as others in the Lewisham area as part of general maintenance programme.
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “Royal Mail's postboxes are a great British icon, as well as a key element of Royal Mail's business of connecting consumers, communities and companies. There are over 115,000 postboxes across the country, we are very proud of them and we put a great deal of effort into maintaining and painting them.
“We repaint and refurbish them on a regular basis and we also respond directly to reports by our staff and customers about individual boxes that require urgent attention."
