An 81-year-old former shipping worker led sheep across London Bridge as part of an ancient ritual.
Frank Tullett, of Berkhampstead Road, Belvedere, described the experience as a "real privilege".
He was given the freedom of the City of London which means he can enjoy a range of unusual customs.
Mr Tullett said: "I was given the Freedom of the City of London a few years ago through my work in shipping, after being recommended by colleagues and clients.
"I had lots of family watching and later we all went to the Hilton Hotel and had champagne to celebrate.
"There were five or six of us taking part, with 10 sheep from the Cotswolds, and they were all well behaved. It was a real privilege."
Granting someone the Freedom of the City of London is one of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies still in existence today. It is believed that the first freedom was presented in 1237.
