AN ACADEMY school has been officially opened by the Mayor of Swanley.
Orchards Academy, formerly Swanley Technology College, in St Mary's Road, Kent, will now be run as an independent school as part of the Kemnal Academies Trust.
The school became an academy in November last year, which means it will no longer be controlled by Kent County Council.
The name Orchards Academy was chosen to reflect the history of Swanley as a market and flower area.
Swanley Mayor Janet Sargeant joined head of the academy, Ben Smith, in an opening ceremony on February 1.
