A Hollyoaks star has left the soap after just two years on the show, with his final scenes having already aired.

Hollyoaks fans were left in the dark last week after a gun was pointed at Rex Gallagher, who is played by Jonny Labey, with a loud bang being heard.

In the latest episode of the show that dropped on Channel 4’s streaming platform on Tuesday (July 21), Darren was seen at the garage where he found a dead body on the floor.

It was later confirmed that it was Rex who was shot and died.

Who killed Rex in Hollyoaks?

It was not revealed who shot Rex in the show.

Jonny had joined Hollyoaks in 2024 as a former gang member and the son of Fraser and Grace Black.

During his time on Hollyoaks, Jonny had been involved in a range of big storylines, including human trafficking and his relationship with Ste.

Jonny had previously starred in EastEnders before landing the role in Hollyoaks.

At the time he landed the role, he told Digital Spy: “I had an audition for Hollyoaks a couple of years back, but I think something else came up.

“I know that characters were being developed and what they’ve come up with for Rex is terrifying but also brilliant!

“It’s something I can really sink my teeth into.”

What do fans of Hollyoaks think of Rex leaving?

Fans on Reddit have been discussing Rex’s unexpected death, with many sharing different opinions.

One user said: “I'm kinda glad he's out of the way.

“Love Jonny Labey, great actor but abhorrent character.”

Another user said: “Rex deserved better. He was one of the better characters there.

“If they gave him a man who understood him for what he is and accepted him and who didn’t cheat on him every 5 seconds.

“I also think they should have waited a few months/weeks before killing him off and explored the storyline a bit more.

“If they carry one killing characters off, they’ll all be dead by Christmas.”
