Travellers have hit back at airlines on social media to share their dismay at hiked flight prices amid Heathrow’s closure.
Ryanair announced earlier this morning (Friday, March 21) that it is operating four extra flights between Dublin and Stansted this afternoon as well as four extra flights on Saturday morning.
Prices currently show ranging from €149.99 to €308.51 (£125.54 to £258.23) without a return – with some arguing that prices are too high.
One user on X commented: “Hugely inflated cost, it’s hardly a rescue is it?”
Another added: “Rescue = £300? How?”
While one person said: “So you have to pay more to end up further from your destination."
However, in light of the situation having a knock-on effect at airports across the UK, another user added: “Would you rather they [Ryanair] did nothing? I imagine they expect people to claim it back from their original airline, who in turn will claim it back from Heathrow Airport.”
Looking ahead at a one-way flight for later next week, Ryanair’s prices currently show starting from €14.99 (£12.55) from Dublin to London Stansted.

Elsewhere, Aer Lingus is showing one-way economy flights for the same airports for tomorrow (Saturday) ranging from €158.94 (£133.15) to €383.94 (£321.65) – with limited seats remaining.

While British Airways flights from Dublin to Heathrow (with a connection in Glasgow) range from €174 (£145) to €524 (£438). Similar flights for next week start from €54 (£45).
However, a spokesperson for British Airways, said: "We froze our fare for flights tomorrow.
"The route quoted is not fully operated by BA, and the first leg is operated by another airline."
One disgruntled traveller on X, said: “Every single flight going tomorrow currently has all the people who had their flights cancelled today looking at flights and it’s pushing everyone’s prices up.”
Another user added: “So here we are with a surge in prices due to Heathrow being closed – it’s making me re-think travel plans.”
The British Airways website was momentarily down earlier, as they thanked customers for their patience while “experiencing high demand”.
Ryanair, Aer Lingus and British Airways have been approached for a comment.
