Two England fans attending the 2022 World Cup in Qatar revealed how they were taken to a sheikh's palace while hunting for beer in the prohibitionist nation.

This comes amid a major shakeup of World Cup rules seeing Qatar U-turn on their decision to allow the competition sponsor, Budweiser to sell beer at stadiums during the Cup.

The pair, sporting Everton and England badges shared their unlikely run-in with the son of a Sheikh, seeing them taken to a Qatari palace to meet lions.

In an interview with TalkSPORT, they excitedly praised the experience, saying how they were "set up" in the fan park in Qatar.

John, one of the two England supporters who found themselves in the palace said: "Last night we met one of the Sheikh’s sons and he took us back to the palace. He showed us that he had lions and everything.

"They’ve (Qatar residents) made us so welcome."

The younger England fan added: “Basically we were on a bit of a hunt for some beers and he was like ‘yeah, we sort beers, we sort beers’, so we jumped into the back of his Toyota Landcruiser, ended up at a big palace. He showed us his monkeys, his exotic birds. It was nuts.”

The claims, which are unverified, attracted the attention of Twitter users as many were stunned by the story.
