Uber Eats has joined forces with Asda to give customers free Garnier Ambre Solaire sun cream with their Uber Eats app orders for a limited time this weekend.

This deal comes after a nationwide poll revealed that only 22% of Brits always wear sun cream when it’s sunny in the UK despite 46%, double that figure, make sure to wear SPF when going abroad.

Almost a third of people, 29%, believe it’s unlikely to need to wear sun cream in this country even though 37% have already suffered sunburn at least once this year.

The people of Manchester and Belfast came out on top as the most likely to wear sun cream in the UK but those in Leeds and Liverpool admitted to being less cautious when it comes to the sun.

When the sun isn’t shining, harmful UV rays can still cause damage to the skin. Research shows 44% think sun cream is an expensive buy so it’s hoped that this free product will help Brits look after their skin by wearing the correct SPF.

Data also revealed that 38% of UK adults admit to burning easily, so along with the sun cream you may need to do some extra steps to help stay safe in the sun.

The best way to enjoy the sun safely and protect your skin is to combine shade, clothing and sunscreen.

If you generously apply a high factor of SPF regularly throughout the day it will help to avoid painful sunburn and damage.

Customers in eight coastal cities across the UK can order their free sun cream via the Uber Eats app for a limited time only, simply by placing an order from Asda that’s worth £5 or more.

Locations include Blackpool, Bournemouth, Brighton, Broadstairs, Cardiff Bay, Clacton on Sea, Eastbourne and Great Yarmouth.

Sunjiv Shah, General Manager at Uber Eats, said: “When we’re soaking up the rays here in the UK it’s easy to forget to wear adequate sun protection, which is why we’ve launched this new promotion just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

“Uber Eats now offers far more than just food and partnering with Asda is the perfect way to make sure our customers are able to enjoy the summer sun safely."

Gemma Lightbody, Senior Buying Manager at Asda, commented: “We’re excited to be working with Uber Eats to help people stay protected when out and about this weekend. The sun can be strong enough to cause damage in the UK from the start of April to the end of September, so giving away this sun cream exclusively to Asda customers means they can stay safe and enjoy the sun and at home this summer.

“Customers can also now shop our award-winning own label SPF 30 Protect Clear Sun Mist SPF 30 via the Uber Eats app.”
