A south London hospice is set to auction the wedding dress of Coronation Street character Daisy Midgeley in its first ever sustainable wedding fair.

St Christopher’s Hospice – a south London hospice with 24 shops across south London - is set to host a wedding fair selling and auctioning donated and pre-loved wedding items.

One of the items in the line-up to be auctioned is the wedding dress of Coronation Street character Daisy Midgeley, played by actress Charlotte Jordan.

The dress made an appearance on March 27 during the harrowing acid attack scene involving Daisy’s stalker Justin.

Speaking at the time the Coronation Street wedding storyline aired, actress Charlotte Jordan told the Express: “The wedding dress had to be “Daisyfied” but it also had to be practical for what the purpose was for it.

“There was going to be a lot of physicality down the line.

“So, it couldn’t have been this massive heavy ball gown.

“Initially, it was strapless and I felt we had to add some security to the top of it so that when she’s running around later I’m protected.”

A Coronation Street spokesperson explained that several dresses were made during the filming of the gruelling episode and that one of them was making its way to be sold in an auction next month.

The floor length dress features a mermaid-style sleeveless design.

Donated by a friend of the hospice, the winning bidder will also receive a signed photograph of Charlotte wearing the dress along with a certificate of authenticity.

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street said: "Daisy's dress is beautiful, the episode was so dramatic that we had to make a number of dresses for Charlotte to wear across the three weeks it took to film the scenes.

“We are delighted that one of those dresses is now going to raise much needed funds for St Christopher's Hospice."

The dress will be auctioned in St Christopher’s Sustainable Wedding Fair which is set to take place over two consecutive days on July 1 and 2.

The event is set to be held in the hospice’s Education Centre in Sydenham where attendees will have the chance to bid on the now iconic dress.

The dress will also feature with 50 brand new wedding dresses alongside outfits and accessories donated by local wedding businesses that were soon to close.

Alongside the auction, the event will also bring together a host of local wedding suppliers and businesses including florists, décor specialists, beauticians, and photographers.

Ginger Bujdoso, Head of Retail at St Christopher’s, said: “This is our first ever Sustainable Wedding Fair and our aim is to bring together local businesses, supporting the local community the same way as they’ve always supported St Christopher’s.

“This is the perfect opportunity to connect with our partners, to promote sustainable fashion and to raise extra awareness on our mission and values “Sustainability is so important for St Christopher’s and we’re excited to show people our range of dresses and attire, both pre-loved and brand new, whilst raising valuable funds for the hospice.”
