The best performing schools in Bromley based on GCSE results have been revealed after the latest government figures were released.

Almost three-quarters of Bromley’s secondary schools were judged above average or well above average with a significant proportion of the remainder judged on a par with other such schools nationally.

Councillor Peter Fortune, Executive Member for Education, Children and Families said: “This is great news. We have put Bromley’s children at the centre of our Building a Better Bromley priorities and I am always delighted to see our young people not only doing well, but also exceeding national averages.”

Attainment 8 is a new way of calculating pupil achievement.

It measures the achievement of a pupil across eight qualifications, with mathematics and English given extra weight.

In England the average attainment 8 score was 44.6 in 2017.

Bromley secondary schools topped this by scoring an average of 49.8.

St Olave's Grammar School in Orpington was the top-performing school in the borough, and the fifth best nationally, with a score of 81.5.

It was closely followed by Newstead Wood School, also in Orpington, with 78.9 which made its 14th best nationally.

St Olave's has been contacted for comment on its success, while Newstead headteacher Nick Webb said: “We are delighted with another superb set of GCSE results and pass our congratulations to all of our students, their families and our staff.

“The students have worked incredibly hard to make so much progress and we are all immensely proud of them.”

Headteacher of Langley Park School for Girls, Anne Hudson, said: "I am absolutely delighted that once again Langley Park School for Girls has achieved some of the best results in Bromley.

"I am so proud of our talented and dedicated staff, the students and the parents who continue to work together to ensure that we are improving prospects for young people in our community."
