A brand new, state-of-the-art hospital theatre has been opened by Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust
The NHS trust called it a "very special day" as it unveiled the impressive 'laparoscopic' theatre, located in the Day Care Unit in Darent Valley Hospital.
The state of the art facility was officially opened at a ribbon cutting event last week, and will be used in laparoscopic procedures, also known as keyhole surgery.
This also means the hospital is now one of only a few in the country to have a unique lighting system, dubbed 'LEDVISION'.
The lighting system means the surgeon can now choose what colour lighting works best (as seen above) to optimise the surgical procedure, allowing them a clearer view and eliminates shadows.
This is the second laparoscopic theatre at Darent Valley Hospital, and Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust say it is a "wonderful addition," offering better imaging capabilities and streamlining the surgical process.
The new theatre will "really benefit our patients," minimising the level of invasive surgery and improving patient experience.
Abhi Gupta, Divisional Medical Director said “I would like to whole heartily thank the surgical team who worked tirelessly on this project to ensure that it was delivered.
"This was all carried out during the second wave of COVID-19 which is a remarkable achievement.
"Thank you also to Louise Ashley, CEO for taking the time out of her very busy schedule to cut the ribbon”.
