A new primary academy marked its official opening last week by inviting Lord Harris of Peckham for a tour.

Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green, based on St George's Road, first welcomed pupils in September.

Lord Harris visited the school on Thursday, December 14, where he spoke to staff about their vision and also judged a Christmas wreath competition.

The single-form school is the fifth member of the Harris Federation from Bromley, which runs 44 academies in and around London.

Principal of Harris Primary Academy Beckenham Green, Karen Minnis, said: "We were delighted to welcome Lord Harris to our school to celebrate its official opening.

"It was a fantastic event enjoyed by pupils and staff alike and it was great way to formally mark the opening of the academy.

“Since opening in September, our pupils have been engaged, well-behaved and a pleasure to teach.

"Whilst our academy is small, it benefits massively from being a part of the thriving community of Harris academies in the area and we are thrilled to be able to offer an excellent education to children and families in Beckenham Green.”

The academy will soon celebrate the bicentenary of the school site with children in Bromley being educated there since 1818.
