An 'unwelcome squatter' fox terrified a Petts Wood woman who came downstairs to find it sleeping in her cat's bed.

But things went from bad to worse when the 'stinky' furry visitor refused to leave.

Meloney Blayze, from Petts Wood, said: “I woke at 4am to let the cat out the kitchen window as he goes onto the roof into the garden. I went back to sleep until 6am.

“When I came downstairs, and walked passed the kitchen into the bathroom, I did a double take as in the kitchen window I could see a pair of huge ears.

“I thought, ‘hmm those are not the cat’s ears!’ I turned the light on and look what was in the cat’s bed - a fox.”

Meloney tried to shoe the fox away but she said it just looked at her.

“He was very tame, he did not want to leave,” she said.

And Meloney’s cat was fuming that the fox had stolen its cosy bed.

She said: “The cat was outside the window and was not impressed. I had to let him in the bathroom window.

“He jumped on the side like the brave cat he is and hissed at the fox, but the fox just looked at him.”

No matter how much the cat hissed, the cheeky fox wouldn’t budge an inch.

Wondering what to do, Meloney picked up a cooking implement but then thought better of whacking a wild animal.

Meloney said: “It was like an unwelcome squatter! I kept tapping the bed but backing away as it’s a wild dog and I did not want to upset it as it could bite for all I knew.

“Eventually, I managed to tip the bed and it went out the window. I quickly shut the window and it stood outside the window looking in.”

The fox may have been gone but it left a little bit of itself behind.

Meloney said: “It was a very good-looking fox but stinky, and it frightened the life out of me.

“I guess it must have got its bottom on my sofa for a while as it stank and I had to clean everything.

“It is the most awful smell. I am lucky I had shut my bedroom door or I could have woken up with that on my bed.”
