The Dartford Crossing regularly featured in the news this year, and especially in January with the tragic events when a Welling man fell from the bridge.
February: Teenage girl who died at The O2 took double the amount of MDMA because she 'was determined to have a good time'
News Shopper regularly covered the latest happenings at The O2 but on this occasion tragedy struck when a teenage girl took MDMA and it all went horribly wrong.
This was a story that really grabbed our reader’s attention, getting more hits than anything else this year as the debates about religion and medicine cohabiting raged for days.
April: 19-year-old murder victim named after stabbing in Blackheath
There were many fatal stabbings of teenagers in London this year as crime rates rose across the capital. Jordan Wright was one of those victims after the 19-year-old was stabbed in Blackheath.
May: Police have to be called after schoolgirls are banned from lessons for decorating their uniform
As schools finished for the year and children went to their graduations, one school took issue with how the schoolgirls dressed when they turned up for their last day.
June: Police warn public not to approach this Welling man with 'links to gangs' who may be Woolwich
This police appeal for a man captured the attention of our Woolwich readerbase who wanted to ensure they were safe.
July: Screams of 'no, no, no' were heard as two moped thugs stabbed a dad to death for his watch and phone
The fatal killing of Danny Pearce over his watch and phone was a tragic story that captured the feeling of many people of the time in south east London.
August: Police are hunting a driver who fled after a road-rage stabbing in Welling
Thankfully the victim did not suffer more permanent consequences from this attack, but this road rage stabbing was still a frightening story.
September: An Eastenders actress and a former Towie star have opened a new tattoo shop in Bexleyheath
It wasn’t all crime that people read this year. When Former TOWIE star Dan Osborne opened a tattoo shop with his girlfriend, the EastEnders star and Bexley native Jacqueline Jossa, you couldn't get enough of it. It ended up being our second most-read story of the 2017.
October: Police officers 'slashed' while dealing with fight in Plumstead High Street
Lots of people this October read News Shopper’s live coverage of a police officer who was slashed while trying to interrupt a fight in Plumstead as police searched for the perpetrators.
November: Teenage moped rider still critically ill after police stop
Moped crime continued to be a hot button topic in south east London as police stopped a moped in Bexley and had to take the rider to hospital.
December: Eastenders star Jessie Wallace caught up in Bromley 'bar fight'
A dramatic night out for the Bromley Panto star this Christmas after she got caught up in a bar fight.
