A library in Bexleyheath is closing so a special new toilet can be installed.

A new Changing Places toilet, the first in Bexley, will be installed in Central Library to give disabled people a comfortable place to use the toilet.

The toilet will give people with learning disabilities, as well as physical disabilities, somewhere safe with extra equipment and space to use the toilet comfortably.

The library will be closed from January 3 until February 1 for building works.

Cabinet Member for community safety, environment and leisure, Councillor Peter Craske said: "Central Library is our flagship library and, although we know it will be missed during these works, I’m sure users would agree that it is for a very good reason.

"Having a new Changing Places space in our main town centre is a great idea and will benefit visitors not only to the library but to our town centre. It would be remiss of us not to take the time during the closure to give the building a bit of a freshen up! Luckily it will be open and looking good in time for our first ever book festival in February."

The nearest library to Bexleyheath is Welling, which will be open on Sunday from 10am to 1pm.
