Bexleyheath’s Clock Tower is still showing British Summer Time after clock specialists could not provide the key to the building – nearly two weeks ago.

Resident Barrie Stirk, 60, of Risedale Road, claims this had a huge impact on his day which meant he got home “too early” for the football last Sunday (November 1).

He said: “I was shopping in town and I looked at the clock because I wanted to get back in time for the 4pm Southampton vs Bournemouth game.

“The Clock Tower told the wrong time which is crazy – I rushed back for nothing.

“It affected me and most likely other people because I ended up getting home far too early for the game.

“It’s a massive inconvenience for people and an annoying factor that comes with it, too.”

Clock specialists were due to change the clock in Bexley Broadway on October 23 but failed to provide the key.

A Bexley Council spokesman said: “We are sorry that the Clock Tower is still on British Summer Time and apologise to anyone that may have been inconvenienced as a result of this.

“Our usual clock specialists were due to change the clock on October 23.

“Unfortunately, at the last moment the key holders were unable to provide the key. We have re-booked for the next available appointment which is 6 November.”
