FIVE singers were injured when a machete wielding man smashed the windows of their church in St Paul’s Cray while they were having a rehearsal.

Police were called to St Barnabas Church, Rushet Road, at about 8.20pm last night (July 31) and arrested a 56-year-old man for assault and criminal damage.

He is currently being treated in hospital for a hand injury.

None of the injuries to the two women singers, one in her 80s and another aged around 60, and three men singers, two aged in their 60s and one aged 84, are thought to be serious.

A Bromley police spokesman said none of the injuries were caused by the machete.
