A RAILWAY station has been given an award for safety improvements.
Ladywell Station, Railway Terrace, Lewisham, has been recognised for its design, security and passenger safety under the Secure Stations Scheme.
It was given top marks for its boundary fencing, CCTV, good lighting and regular maintenance, including the removal of graffiti within 24-hours.
The scheme, operated by the Department of Transport and the British Transport Police, has been running for 10 years.
Over the past 12 months station operator Southeastern Trains has improved the station, which is used by around 1,760 people each day.
Cash was provided through a £20m London-wide Transport for London safety and security investment programme.
Southeastern Trains managing director Charles Horton said: "The safety of our passengers is our highest priority.
"We are pleased the work we have completed at Ladywell has resulted in it achieving secure station accreditation."
