A MILITARY boxing club that opened its doors to civilians has supported the Freddie Farmer Foundation as the beneficiary of its annual home boxing show.
The London Distrct TA & Army Boxing Club held its show at the Grove Park TA Centre on Thursday, May 31, when seven-year-old Freddie Farmer got a unique ovation from an audience including veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
Just over £4,000 was raised on a night of boxing and club secretary Capt Robbie Wilmont MBE said: "This new approach of integrating the military much more actively into the local area has proved very productive and also provided much of the reasoning behind the decision to support a civilian charity at this year's event.
"Freddie's family have been massive supporters of the club since the outset, which made it an easy choice for selection."
Freddie and many members of his family attended the event and were clearly very moved by the standing ovation Freddie received when entering the room.
*The Freddie Farmer Foundation, a registered charity, was formed a year ago to set up a specialist physiotherapy centre in SE London for children and young people with cerebral palsy and serious mobility problems. Find out more at www.freddiefarmerfoundation.org.uk
