THOUSANDS of cyclists have marked the official opening of Europe’s largest cycling park in Gravesend with a mass bike ride.

Biking enthusiasts took a turn around the 43 hectare Cyclopark on Sunday (May 27) as part of a celebration organised by Kent Country Council (KCC).

It is hoped the park, which boasts mountain bike and BMX cycling facilities and also a children’s adventure playground, will attract visitors from the Olympics.

The council’s cabinet member for environment, highways and waste, Bryan Sweetland, said: “Cyclopark is a fantastic new attraction for Kent that will attract hundreds of thousands of people – from dedicated cyclists and athletes to families looking for a great day out.

“There are few facilities of this standard in the country.

“Opening before the Olympics, we expect Cyclopark will draw thousands of visitors, bringing tourists and their cash, to help regenerate this part of Kent.”
