THE son of a grandmother who was stabbed to death in Bexleyheath has spoken for the first time since her death.

Ian Hodkin, 34, of Porthkerry Avenue, Welling, says his family was left devastated after Sally Hodkin was knifed in an attack on the morning of October 10 last year.

The incident happened in Bexleyheath’s Broadway when the 59-year-old was on her way to work at Cunningham Blake solicitors in Blackheath.

She was pronounced dead by the war memorial in Albion Road shortly after.

A 23-year-old woman also received minor wounds.

Mr Hodkin, who has two sons, four-year-old Max and nine-year-old Alex, with wife Claire, said: "They were very upset and devastated.

"The family has been helping each other.

"We always think of her and we rally round each other.

"That’s what families do."

Mrs Hodkin also left behind husband Paul and son Len.

Paying tribute to his mother, Mr Hodkin says his mother never tired of putting other people first.

He said: "She was a kind, loving person- she liked to knit and when anyone had a new born she would knit something for them.

"She was very hands on and loved her grandchildren.

"She loved to live life to the full.

"I could go on for hours and hours of what she was like."

Last Wednesday (May 16) more than 500 people turned out for a charity football match organised in Mrs Hodkin’s memory.

A total of £7,000 was raised at the event, with funds to go the Meniere’s Society, a charity that helps people with hearing problems.

Mrs Hodkin, who was deaf in one ear and partially deaf in the other, was a member of the society.

Mr Hodkin said: "It was overwhelming the amount of people that came and the support we received."

Nicola Caroline Edgington, aged 31, of Ambedkar House in Flavell Mews, Greenwich has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

She is to appear on June 1 at the Old Bailey to enter a plea.
