RESIDENTS are opposing an application which would give a food store a licence to sell alcohol.
Greenwich Council has received three letters of objection and a petition with 41 signatures against IMC Food Centre, Eltham High Street, being allowed to sell alcohol from 9am to 9pm every day.
Licensing chiefs are set to make a decision next week.
IMC Food Centre, a specialist Turkish food store, is currently closed for refurbishments.
Residents are opposing the store's alcohol licence application on the grounds of public safety, prevention of crime and disorder, public nuisance and prevention of harm to children.
One resident says youths already gather on the corner of Wythfield Road and Eltham High Street and drink alcohol and fears this could get worse if their access to booze is increased.
