A new First Class Learning Maths and English Tuition Centre has just been launched in Plumstead Common. It runs every Saturday from 1-3pm and follows the UK national curriculum, helping children of all ages and abilities to achieve and realise their full potential.

The centre manager is a fully qualified teacher who has more than 20 years experience teaching pupils of a variety of ages.

Chris Jones, one of the company directors and programme creators, said: “We all understand the value of education, especially in the competitive world we live in today.

“As parents, one of our main wishes in life is to ensure that our children excel in their education and maximise their potential, allowing them to excel throughout their lives.

“What is more, we want our children to know the joy of learning, and to grow into enthusiastic and independent learners.

“The centre’s opening comes at a time where there is much political debate about why children’s education levels are so low and how this problem can be addressed. FCL programmes are designed by a team of maths and English specialists and a personal programme is created for each student after their initial level has been determined. They hope to tackle this problem within the local area. “Children will begin to thoroughly understand and grasp the basics of both maths and English which will create a solid foundation that they can build upon.

“Programmes focus on building up children’s skills step-by-step and most importantly building confidence. This will not only motivate them to enjoy learning, but will also transform them into independent learners.

“We recognise the need to develop a programme that links with the National Curriculum.

“Within a couple of weeks at the centre, children start to develop their own routine, with the programme which enables them to take small but significant steps in their ongoing skill development.”

He added: “The foundation of a child’s success starts at a very young age: learning to speak, learning to read and write, learning to count. The two subjects that underpin successful learning, more than any others, are maths and English.

“What a child learns when young in maths and English is fundamental to their future, and the child who is confident in these two subjects can carry that confidence over to other areas of the curriculum.”
