MICHAEL Morrison was delighted to get on the score sheet in Charlton’s 1-1 draw at Tranmere on Saturday.

The defender headed in the Addicks’ equaliser 15 minutes into the second half via the underside of the bar.

In the second half the table-toppers began to turn the screw, following a disappointing opening period.

And goal hero Morrison explained afterwards why he felt the Addicks were unfortunate not to leave with all three points.

He said: “I think the first half we played OK.

“When they scored it disrupted us and it wasn’t great going in 1-0 down.

“We came out in the second half and played some good stuff and created some good chances but we couldn’t get the second goal.”

Morrison added: “We put in a few good crosses and had a couple of half chances.

“It was frustrating in the end because I felt we’d done enough in the second half to get the win.

“But you have to put things into perspective, you can’t win every game.

“It’s a tough place to come and if we win on Tuesday night, it becomes a very good point.”

Ryan Brunt gave the hosts a 33rd minute lead as the Addicks conceded their first goal in a 3pm kick off for five matches.

The league leaders went into the break behind, but Morrison’s bullet header levelled the scorers on the hour mark.

Dale Stephens floated a corner in right-footed and the centre back rose highest to power home a deserved equaliser for Charlton, who were enjoying at good spell of pressure at that stage.

As the ball met the head of Morrison it cannoned off the bar before landing behind the goal line and bouncing back out.

Referee Andy Haines didn’t hesitate in giving the goal, although his linesman was not so reactive.

Morrison said: “I was 99 per cent sure that it had gone in.

“The one per cent I wasn’t sure was because I looked over to the linesman and he hadn’t flagged.

“It was an important one away from home today.

“I’ve popped up with a few goals this season and I’ve been really, really pleased with myself.”

The defender was also quick to highlight the importance of staying focused and expressed how promotion to the Championship is one of two aims for the rest of the season.

Morrison added: “It’s not just promotion we’re after, we want to win the league.

“We’re six points ahead of Sheffield United at the moment and I think if we stay ahead of them we’ll be champions.

“They’re the only ones that are really putting a lot of pressure on us.

“All the lads know that promotion is the first thing, but for myself I’d love to go up as champions.”
