SAFETY improvements at a busy junction will finally go ahead at the end of the year, transport chiefs have confirmed.
A letter from Transport for London to residents says work at Bromley Road and Whitefoot Lane in Catford will start in October or November.
There have been calls from pedestrians, drivers and Lib Dem councillors in the area, for around six years to get safety improvements at the pedestrian crossing.
But London mayors Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson have always been unable to guarantee starting the work.
Now plans are afoot to add pedestrian phasings to the lights across Whitefoot Lane and the northern side of Bromley Road, with central refuges for safer crossing.
There are also plans to widen the road junction, removing guard rails and adding new cycle stop lanes.
