AN historic former cinema and bingo hall could become a church under new plans.
The landmark, Grade II* listed building on Powis Street, Woolwich, originally opened in 1937 as the Granada Cinema before later becoming a Gala Bingo hall.
Now, an application by Christ Faith Tabernacle which has a mixed congregation, including many from the African and Caribbean community, would see it change use again to a place of worship.
Under the proposals, some of the furniture would be removed but the applicant says no major alterations are planned.
A complimentary bus service is planned to transport worshippers to the site.
The building already neighbours the New Wine Church – which also replaced a cinema.
An application has gone into Greenwich Council and a decision is expected in late December.
