CHILDREN, parents and staff at Charlton Manor school have celebrated the opening of a new playground.
They were joined by Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Jackie Smith and Clive Efford, MP for Eltham.
The official opening at Indus Road on Friday, unveiled a new play area with a range of surfaces including a safety surface, tarmac and grassed area.
Other features include planters where students can plant flowers and vegetables as part of the school’s emphasis on involving children in horticulture.
There is also a composter, wormery, climbing equipment and a beach area.
Headteacher Tim Baker said: “At Charlton Manor we are committed to ensuring that children understand the environment around them and to helping them understand where food comes from.
“We want to ensure that children have this understanding all the way from nursery to Year 6.”
