WHEN Little G disappeared from home a decade ago, his owner assumed he was gone forever.

Little did she know the maverick moggy had tired of city life and swapped the mean streets of Lewisham for the peaceful seaside town of Whistable.

Mystery still surrounds how the cat – described as a “free spirit” - turned up in someone’s Whitstable garden earlier this month.

He was taken to a vet and, amazingly, when staff scanned him for a microchip they discovered he had been registered 10 years ago in Lewisham – 50 miles away.

Pat King from Canterbury Cats Protection League said his old owner had been “amazed and shocked” by the news.

She said: “She thought he was a very lucky cat and said he always was a bit of a free spirit.

“She had no idea how he came to be in Whitstable but he apparently was always getting into cars and doing what cats do best - being nosey.

“You know what they say about curiosity and the cat.

“Personally, I think he may have wandered into a removal van and curled up somewhere comfy, then found himself relocated.”

Unfortunately for the furry explorer, his old owner now owns several other cats and is worried that, as a natural loner, Little G may not fit in.

The league is looking for someone to adopt him, or a family who may have taken him in over the years.

But Ms King doesn’t think he will want to move back to Lewisham any time soon.

She said: “He obviously knows a good thing and led the trend for Down From London syndrome.

“That’s what Whitstable people call Londoners who have bought holiday homes here. And why not, Whitstable is a lovely town.”
