FLAMES tore through the top floor of an outhouse in Bean last night as firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control.
The fire was well alight by the time crews from Dartford and Thames-side arrived in Sandy Lane at around 6pm.
The building at the back of Barnfield Cottages was deemed to be unsafe so firefighters fought the flames from outside.
They had it under control within about 90 minutes and made two return visits to the scene overnight to check for hotspots.
It is not yet clear how the fire, which completely destroyed the first floor of the property, started.
