FIREFIGHTERS rescued a woman from the River Thames this morning.

The London Fire Brigade was called at 7.57am (October 15) to reports of a person in the Thames at Convoys Wharf, Deptford.

Firefighters saw a woman in the river, who is believed to have entered the water near Barfleur Lane, Deptford.

She was rescued from the waters edge and transferred by a fire boat to a jetty pick up point.

London Ambulance Service was called at 8.05am to Deptford Strand.

Staff treated the woman, thought to be in her 60s, and took her to St Thomas’ Hospital.

She was conscious and breathing.

Three fire engines left the scene by around 9am.
