VOLUNTEERS from Orpington have helped rebuild a school in Uganda which was destroyed by heavy rain.
A team of 15 people, organised by Chris Hemming, the youth leader at Christ Church Orpington, spent two weeks building five new classrooms at Kahengye Primary School.
The previous building, which consisted of mud and manure, collapsed during monsoon season in Rukungiri, where the school is based.
Among the team was Mr Hemming’s younger brother, 17-year-old Tom, who said: The school has little resources and support so were delighted with the help the team gave.
“The impact was outstanding and demonstrates how a local team of young people and adults can make a significant difference, not just locally but across the world.”
