BORIS Johnson got down with his bad self when he busted a groove in front of bemused shoppers.

The floppy-fringed mayor of London refrained from spinning on his head but with moves N-Dubz’s Dappy would be proud of the 47-year-old performed a specially choreographed dance at The Glades.

Or this is what you might have thought was happening if you only caught a split-second of bopping Boris at the shopping centre in Bromley High Street.

It was in fact children from the Beckenham-based Herbert Justice Academy performing arts school who donned Boris Johnson masks for their two minute performance.

And at exactly the same time in eight other shopping centres across the country shoppers stumbled upon the crazy scenes as children from dance schools performed the same routine.

Rather than quintessentially British morris dancing, shoppers were watching a live performance of Boris dancing.

Richard Bailey, the central marketing manager for Capital Shopping Centres, which runs The Glades, said: “Boris Johnson is such a nationally famous character, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to bring these amazing flash mobs to nine of our shopping centres.

“Dance is hugely popular in the UK at the moment and this was a light-hearted way of giving people the opportunity to watch a live performance.”

Capital Shopping Centres approached the mayor of London’s office for permission but has not had any feedback from Boris Johnson about the event.

The routine was choreographed by Julie Kavanagh, who has created flash mob-style events for companies including Ford, Nike and Microsoft.
