STUDENTS in north Kent are being reminded they do not have to pay tax on money they earn from summer jobs.
Provided they do not earn more than £7,475 in a tax year, students can keep the cash they make but must fill out a P38 (S) form.
The form can be downloaded from HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC) website.
Director general of personal tax at HMRC, Stephen Banyard said: “Many students will choose to work in Dartford and Gravesham during the summer holidays.
“We don’t want those students to pay tax when they don’t owe any, so we’re encouraging them to fill in a P38(S) and send it back to us.
“That way they can keep all the money they’re earning for student life’s essentials.”
