GYMGOERS are burning calories by planting peppers and peas rather than pumping iron by taking their quest to lose weight outside.

For the past six weeks volunteers have been taking part in a green gym project in Winsford Gardens, Garden Road, Penge, to transform the site.

This has included improving the ornamental flower beds and planting raised vegetable beds.

The green gym sessions are run by the BTCV charity with funding help from The Glades shopping centre.

BTCV project officer and green gym trainer Lizzy Johnson said: “The Green Gym scheme is a really enjoyable way to get fit and healthy while giving something back to the community.

“It’s still not too late to join us but if you’re unable to take part, why not visit the park and take a look at what has been achieved.”

The gym sessions are free and open to everyone, taking place every Wednesday from 11am to 2pm.
