COUNCILLORS will don crash helmets, but hopefully not lycra, when they become the first bikers on a BMX track.
Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for culture and the Olympics Cllr John Fahy made the vow at a meeting as response to criticism of Hornfair Park’s forthcoming BMX track.
Although approval has already been granted for the Charlton scheme, people living nearby are concerned it could bring a range of problems including anti-social behaviour and noise pollution.
But Cllr Fahy said he would be happy to ride the track alongside those who opposed it, promising them “an enjoyable afternoon together”.
Ward councillors Norman Adams, Hayley Fletcher and current mayor Jim Gillman are also set to tackle the course when it is completed next summer.
