A GRANDMOTHER and her son have been jailed for helping two men avoid arrest after they were involved in the killing of an Orpington man.

Doreen Mitchell, aged 68, and 42-year-old Darren Mitchell harboured Bobby Winser and Michael Campbell at their home in Eastbourne in East Sussex following the death of 27-year-old Daniel Herbert.

The Mitchells, who are Winser’s grandmother and uncle, lied to police about the two suspects being at their home and also attempted to give them a false alibi.

Doreen Mitchell was jailed for two years at the Old Bailey on Wednesday (June 15) after previously being found guilty of assisting an offender.

Darren Mitchell was jailed for four years at the same hearing after previously being found guilty of the same charge and admitting perverting the course of justice.

Nightclub promoter Mr Herbert, of Holywell Close, was shot dead in Bermondsey on August 17 in 2009 after being chased and viciously beaten by four men.

Winser, aged 22, from Bermondsey, and Campbell, aged 25, from Camberwell, were each jailed for 14 years last month after being found guilty of assault causing GBH in relation to Mr Herbert’s death.
