AN £18m school has been officially opened by the Archbishop of York - after its pupils invited him.

Trinity, in Taunton Road, Lee, was visited by Dr John Sentamu along with Lewisham East MP Heidi Alexander and the Right Reverend Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark.

Formerly Northbrook School, the secondary was rebuilt as part of the government-funded Building Schools for the Future programme, despite a campaign by some residents.

It opened to pupils in January.

Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock said: “The school has many causes for celebration.

“Not only this fantastic new building, but Trinity has also improved faster than any other in Lewisham.”
