LIBRARY campaigners are taking their fight to the town hall and Whitehall this week.
People will be protesting against Lewisham Council’s decision - finalised last week - to offload five of its libraries as part of cost-cutting.
A protest will kick off on Wednesday (May 18) from 10am outside Lewisham Town Hall in Catford.
Some campaigners will then make their way to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in Cockspur Street, central London, for noon.
A spokesman for the groups Lewisham Anti-Cuts Alliance and People Before Profit said: “We are opposed to any changes that will lead to making librarians redundant, the worsening of their terms and conditions, restrictions on library space and the availability of books.
“Lewisham Council has a responsibility to provide a publicly funded library service for local residents; making their survival dependent on the success or failure of business or charities is a risky move."
